Katsushika Hokusai − one of the most famous Japanese ukiyo-e painters.
One of his most famous artworks "The Great Wave of Kanagawa", from the 46 series of "Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji", was used as motif for the pop-styled dial design.

The vertical stripe pattern is thought of as a charm that wards off the evil.
The pattern became popular as stylish ornament among the common folk during the Edo period.
