This watch was born from a design created by a student at the University of Tsukuba.
With more than 25 years of experience in planning, manufacturing, and selling watches,
MARUZEKI carefully carried that vision forward, refining every element a watch demands—
from design and legibility to wearing comfort and quality—
to bring the concept to life as a finished product.
Where Diverse Ideas Meet, the Future Begins.
The design theme is
“Diversity × Integration of Knowledge × Creating the Future.”
When different personalities, values, and academic disciplines come together, new knowledge and new possibilities for the future emerge.
Together with the University of Tsukuba slogan, “IMAGINE THE FUTURE.,”
this idea is expressed through six colorful triangles.

5 BAR WATER RESISTANCE Designed for everyday situations such as handwashing and rain.
ORIGINAL-DESIGN STRAP The strap graphics are printed in-house at MARUZEKI, with each strap carefully finished one by one.
FINAL ASSEMBLY & QUALITY INSPECTION IN JAPAN Every detail is checked before the watch is delivered as a Made-in-Japan timepiece.

This watch embodies the spirit of free thinking and challenge fostered at the University of Tsukuba.
“Go-san no Kiri” — A Symbol of the University of Tsukuba’s History
The case back is engraved with “Go-san no Kiri,” the official emblem of the University of Tsukuba.
The emblem was inherited from the Tokyo Higher Normal School and the Tokyo University of Education,
and symbolizes the history and traditions of the University of Tsukuba.
A tradition passed down through generations, together with the future envisioned by today’s students. Both are captured in this single watch.
Even the Packaging Is Part of the Design
The experience does not end with the watch.
The packaging carries the same visual concept.
The story begins the moment you open the box.

Inspired by the University of Tsukuba, Ash Blue connects learning with innovation. A deep, distinctive shade of blue.

Mint Green represents free thinking, sensitivity, and creativity.
Made in Japan, Made to Be Worn for Years
TSUKUBA WATCH is a Made-in-Japan timepiece assembled in Japan.
MARUZEKI is a watch manufacturer providing one-stop planning, manufacturing,
and sales of Made-in-Japan watches and watch-related products.
Taking the student’s vision to heart, skilled technicians in Japan carefully assemble each watch,
bringing the design to life as a finished timepiece.
TSUKUBA WATCH was designed by
Watanabe, a student in the School of Art and Design at the University of Tsukuba
A fourth-year student in the School of Art and Design, specializing in Visual Design.
Watanabe studies design as a means of communicating information visually,
and approaches creative work with the belief that design can
help solve the challenges we encounter in everyday life.
For TSUKUBA WATCH,
the theme was “a design that feels distinctly Tsukuba even without the university name or logo,”
with the aim of creating a watch that blends naturally into everyday life.
DESIGNER’S MESSAGE
“I designed this watch around the concept of being something people would want to wear every day,
imagining a timepiece that could be worn casually even for a quick outing.
When I first saw the finished product,
I was deeply moved to realize that my design had truly taken physical form. Through this watch, I hope more people
will feel a little closer to the University of Tsukuba.”
Bringing Design into the World
The TSUKUBA WATCH project
does not end when the design is complete.
In Professor Arima’s class in the Institute of Systems and Information Engineering at the University of Tsukuba,
students explore how the ideas they create can be brought into society
and how to encourage more people to discover and choose them.
In the final presentations, students used MARUZEKI’s TSUKUBA WATCH as a case study,
presenting ideas from their own perspectives on how to communicate the product’s appeal
and how it could be marketed and sold.
